The Moments to Be Ready For

Wavering is not random. It tends to arrive at four predictable points. If you know they are coming, you can meet each one with encouragement instead of surprise.

The four moments

  • The first few weeks — shyness, “I don’t know anyone”. Encourage them to give welcome; ask who they met, by name.
  • The busy or exam terms — “I don’t have time anymore”. Plan the calendar together early, and protect the commitment rather than dropping it.
  • The week after a concert — flatness, “maybe I’ll stop”. Celebrate what they achieved first, and don’t let a tired week make the decision.
  • Any sudden “I want to quit” — get curious, find the one fixable thing underneath, and tell us.

Tell us early

If your child is struggling, tell us early. We would always rather have a warm conversation while something is still small than discover it after a young person has drifted away. A quick message is never a bother. It is exactly what we are here for. On rehearsal day, a quick text to 0489 991 212 reaches us, or email youth@australianchristianarts.com.
